The Book that Reminded me of my Love for Romance…

jason momoaLong ago in a galaxy far away I was a graduate student studying the most boring topic of all time: Government. I read and analyzed endless torts, memorized thick dull tomes on Personnel Administration and scoured theses on Organizational Development. It was scintillating. Fascinating. And…yawn. Okay. It wasn’t.

When I graduated—summa cum laude, because I cannot help but be an over achiever—I found myself with time on my hands. I was confused. What did a person actually do when they had time on their hands?

What did I used to do? Before I submitted myself to the long slog of getting a Masters’ in Public Administration?

Ah yes. I read. Quite ravenously, in fact. I might like it again.

So I took myself to the book store (they had them in those days) and checked out the sci fi/fantasy shelves first, because I really enjoyed  sci fi and fantasy. I picked up a book that looked good—in that it was extraordinarily thick. (It was entitled Game of Thrones, in case you are wondering). After reading Game of Thrones I immediately sat down and wrote a 175,000-word epic fantasy with a horde of characters and interweaving story lines. It was extraordinarily satisfying. I enjoyed it so much, I went back to the bookstore to try something else.

Remembering I used to love romance and would read a book or two a day when I didn’t have some other kind of life, I wandered into the Romance section, and I picked up a book called The Inscription by Pam Binder, because it looked quite interesting.

What happened then was magic. Pam pulled me into her world and I was enthralled. I absolutely fell in love with the book, and the romance genre again in the pages of that book. Although, I must admit, I never really fell out of love with romance. It was just hovering there, waiting for me to wake back up.

I immediately sat down and wrote a romance. And another. And another. I still loved epic fantasy, but romance became my world. So much so that I joined RWA and local chapters and started meeting other authors. I was stunned to discover that they were all very encouraging and helpful as I slogged through the wasteland of crappy manuscripts.

Oh, but can you imagine how thrilled I was when at one of those meetings, I met Pam Binder? The woman who reignited by passion for romance? I was even more thrilled to discover that she is a wonderful person and a great friend. She has done so much for my career though her support and through the support of PNWA.

That’s why I was delighted to hear she was re-releasing The Inscription. It’s now available to the world again.

I hope you’ll check it out.
