This book is one of my favorites, and I’m so glad it’s finally going to be released! I used to work in a high school with at-risk kids, and the story was sparked by them. I hope you love Dante and Elinor (as well as Shawn and Ana) as much as I do!
It’s totally Monday when teacher Elinor Callahan discovers a stolen car on her lawn. Then policeman Dante DiMarco comes knocking and life gets worse. Her favorite student is accused, she’s implicated as an accessory, and her job is in jeopardy. Plus, erotic daydreams about the officer complicate her situation.
Dante’s seen too much to buy into naïve Elinor’s “my-student-is-innocent” line. The suspect runs, reinforcing Dante’s view. Still, Elinor’s faith in her student makes him look again – never mind he’s checking out sexy-as-hell Ellie, too. He wants the case closed and Ellie in bed, ASAP, but life threatens to derail their attraction.

There was a purple 1970 Dodge Challenger on her front lawn.
Elinor Callahan yanked the curtains closed, clinging to the edges of the fabric so tightly she was surprised the whole damn thing didn’t rip right off the wall. Squeezing her eyes shut, she sent up a brief prayer that she was just having the mother of all nightmares. Any minute now, she was going to wake up, and it would all be a dream, and she’d laugh about it at school, saying you’ll never believe what I thought I saw this morning…
Opening one eye, she pulled the curtain aside just a fraction of an inch.
Still there.
Oh God, oh God, oh God…
Okay, think. Think. There had to be something she could do, some way to get the stolen car off of her front lawn before the cops showed up.
Because of course it was stolen. It certainly wasn’t her car. Her lawn, her property, her problem. But not her car.
She leaned her forehead against the window, ignoring the chill of the early-morning frost against her skin. Down the street, she could hear the garbage truck beginning its rounds.
And that was another thing. How in the hell had she slept through it? Granted, her room was on the other side of the house, but come on. Was she that sound a sleeper that she wouldn’t even hear the noise of a car being driven practically up to her front porch?
Sighing, she pushed away from the window, rubbing her temples with both hands. It wasn’t even seven in the morning on a workday, but she so wanted a drink.
Okay. She could handle this. She was a professional, for heaven’s sake. She could just call… um…
Oh, who was she kidding? She was a high school teacher with a total of zero connections in the “get this stolen car off my property now, before I go to jail!” arena.
Or, worse, before Shawn went to jail. Because the sick feeling in the pit of her stomach told her he was responsible for her new lawn ornament.
She’d thought he was doing so well, staying out of trouble, maybe even growing up a little bit.
Instead, he’d boosted a vintage muscle car and left it on her doorstep like a cat deposits a dead mouse.
A sign of affection, sure, but she was still the sucker left cleaning up the mess.
